Falcons Soar in Season-Opening Victory at St. Norbert

GREEN BAY, Wis. – It was a sensational start to the season for the Concordia Wisconsin women's cross country team at the St. Norbert College Tom Berry Invite. In an 11-team field filled with teams from NCAA Division I and III, the Falcons claimed the team title with 51 points, three less than Wisconsin-Green Bay of NCAA Division I. This is the third-straight season that the Falcons have had the lowest score of the Division III schools and the second time in the last three years that the Falcons have secured the overall team title.

The Falcons led the pack with three top-10 finishers on Saturday morning.

Junior Ainara Sainz de Rozas (Madrid, Spain) claimed the individual title at 18:09.9.

Junior Emma Aherns (Stephens City, Va.) earned the silver medal with a time of 18:53.0.

Senior Melanie Arvis (Berwyn, Ill.) crushed the course in fifth place at 19:04.5.

In 16th place was senior Danielle Van Grinsven (Appleton, Wis.) at 19:56.8.

Senior Abigail Poehlman (Hubertus, Wis.) crossed the finish line at 20:36.7 in 30th place.

Junior Mikayla Becker (Plantation, Fla.) brought in 36th place honors at 20:54.4.

In 45th place was junior Abigail Lange (Pleasant Prairie, Wis.) at 21:11.0.

Senior Elizabeth Van Rixel (Athens, Wis.) ran a time of 22:23.5 in 66th place.

Junior Bailee Schlender (Brillion, Wis.) snagged 74th place at 22:50.2, just ahead of sophomore Annabelle Gonnering (West Bend, Wis.) in 75th place at 22:54.7.

Junior Hailey Foster (Pewaukee, Wis.) finished in 84th place on Saturday at 23:17.8.

Junior Sydney Leschisin (Turtle Lake, Wis.) closed out the Concordia runners in 87th place at 23:28.1.

The Falcons look to continue their winning ways on September 13 at home at the Ken Weidt Classic on the Concordia campus.
