KENOSHA, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's volleyball team opened the Carthage Firebird Classic on Friday afternoon. The Tigers won the battle with a 25-22, 27-25, 25-22 victory.
Colorado College used a 5-0 run to gain some separation and pushed it to 18-11. The Falcons did not fold and cut the CC lead to 24-22 with a service ace from junior Emily Dickmann (Grafton, Wis.), but the Tigers took the set on the next point.
The Falcons controlled the momentum to start the second set and a kill from senior Paige Stickney (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) gave the Falcons a 14-9 lead. The Tigers stormed back and the two teams faced nine ties the rest of the set. Colorado College claimed the set with a 3-0 run to win the set at 27-25.
The Tigers took an early lead in the third set and never looked back. Despite the early hole, the Falcons hung tight and a kill from Paige Stickney clipped the Colorado lead to 24-22.
Paige Stickney led the Concordia attack with 11 kills and three blocks.
The Falcons will face two in-state foes on Saturday with Wisconsin-Platteville and Carthage.
