MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's soccer team came out of a defensive battle with a 1-0 over Aurora on Wednesday evening. The victory sends the Falcons to 4-1-3 on the year and 3-0-0 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
The Falcons opened the match with pressure on the Aurora net.
The Blue and White had shots from freshman Koffy'e Chappel (Oakland, Calif.), junior Lanie Czerkies (Joliet, Ill.), sophomore Hailey Whittow (Menomonee Falls, Wis.), senior Shay Lange (Racine, Wis.) and senior Brei Rozmiarek (West De Pere, Wis.) in the first 15 minutes.
The Spartans bounced back with a pair of shots that were saved by junior Kara Claussner (St. Charles, Ill.).
The two teams went into halftime tied at zero.
The Falcons started the second half on the attack once again.
Concordia broke through in the 68th minute when Koffy'e Chappel cut through the defense and buried the ball past the keeper.
CUW looked to have struck again in the 81st minute, but the offsides flag was up.
The Spartans fought until the very end and had a shot ring off the post and another saved by Kara Claussner un the 85th minute.
The Concordia defense collected its third-straight shutout and the fifth of the season. Kara Claussner had four saves in the victory.
Concordia collected a 19-9 advantage in shots on Wednesday. Brei Rozmiarek led the contest with six shots.
The Falcons will take a break from NACC play and host No. 14 Wisconsin-La Crosse on Saturday morning.
