MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's basketball team earned a decisive 100–74 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday evening, snapping an eight-game losing streak against the Warriors. The Falcons improve to 7–8 overall and 5–3 in conference play with the win.
The 26-point margin marked Concordia's second victory by that total this season, the first coming in an 81–55 home win over Dominican on Dec. 17.
After trading baskets through the opening five minutes, the Falcons began to pull away midway through the first half. With 14:37 remaining, CUW went on a 12–0 run over a span of 2:47, shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and 2-for-2 from beyond the arc. Senior
Logan Landers (Cedarburg, Wis.) scored four points during the stretch, while juniors
Severin Hilt (West Bend, Wis.) and
Jacob Christjohn (Milwaukee, Wis.) each knocked down a three-pointer.
Wisconsin Lutheran attempted to respond, but an 11–2 run late in the half allowed the Royal Blue and Gray to extend the lead to as many as 16 points heading into the break.
Concordia continued its offensive momentum in the second half, maintaining control throughout and never relinquishing the lead. The Falcons closed the game on a 14–4 run over the final three-and-a-half minutes to reach the 100-point mark for the second time this season.
CUW held the lead for 90.9 percent of the contest and allowed just two ties overall.
Landers led all players with his 10th double-double of the season, finishing with 32 points and 16 rebounds while also pacing the Falcons with five assists. Junior
Casey Verhagen (Sheboygan, Wis.) added 26 points in a strong offensive performance.
Sophomore
Luke Eggemeyer (Perryville, Mo.) also scored in double figures, posting a season-high 11 points. Eggemeyer and freshman
Alex Greene (Milwaukee, Wis.) each recorded two blocks to anchor the Falcons' defensive effort.
Concordia Wisconsin returns home on Wednesday for a conference matchup against Aurora. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the R. John Buuck Field House.
