CUW Wraps Up Slug Slam Tournament Versus No. 7 Vassar

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's volleyball team wrapped up play at the Slug Slam Tournament with a 3-0 loss to No. 7 Vassar on Sunday. After facing four top-15 opponents in California, the Falcons return home with an 0-4 record to open the season.

Concordia Wisconsin came out strong in the opening set, forcing extra points. The Falcons used an early 7-3 run to build an 11-5 advantage, highlighted by two kills and a solo block from senior Tate Miller (Anthem, Ariz.) and an additional kill from sophomore Reid Scott (Chandler, Ariz.).

Vassar responded down the stretch as the teams traded points late in the set, pushing the frame beyond regulation. Despite the strong start by the Falcons, the nationally ranked Brewers edged out the first set, 27-25.

Vassar carried the momentum into the second set, taking control early to build a 2-0 match lead.

CUW showed resilience in the third set, pushing back against the Brewers' offense. The Falcons limited Vassar to just seven kills while producing 10 of their own. However, attack errors proved costly, allowing the Brewers to close out the match.

Scott paced the Falcons offensively with nine kills, while sophomore Owen Kolozsy (Carol Stream, Ill.) added eight. Sophomore setter Hayden Hurley (Gilbert, Ariz.) distributed 25 assists and contributed defensively with nine digs.

The Falcons return to action on Thursday with their home opener against Carthage, ranked No. 2 in the AVCA preseason poll. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the R. John Buuck Field House.
