MEQUON, Wis. – The 12th-ranked Falcons continue to soar higher and higher. The Concordia Wisconsin women's hockey team extended its program-best unbeaten streak to 19 games on Saturday with a 3-0 victory to improve to 19-1-1 on the year and 13-0-1 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.
The Falcons peppered the Lawrence net all throughout Saturday evening and broke into the back of the net in the 18th minute.
Junior Mackaylan McGown showcased her speed as she broke free off passes from junior Naomi Black (Ottawa, Ontario) and freshman Abby Hansberger (Elk River, Minn.) to score the first goal of the game.
The second period was dominated by the Falcons as the Birds held a 22-4 advantage in shots. But the best look for ither team was a shorthanded breakaway opportunity for Lawrence that was stopped cold by junior Eva Kingston (Brooks, Alberta).
The Falcons struck again in the third period when Naomi Black lit the lamp off a beautiful pass from Mackaylan McGown and a secondary assist to Abby Hansberger.
Naomi Black capped off the evening with an empty-net goal off a helper from sophomore Taylor Heleniak (Mercer, Wis.).
The Birds blitzed Lawrence with a 48-9 shots advantage on Saturday.
Eva Kingston recorded her second shutout in two games played with nine saves against the Vikings. Saturday was the seventh shutout of the season.
The Falcons won a majority of the faceoffs once again, led by Mackaylan McGown with 10 victories. Freshman Maddy Jugan (Hartford, Wis.) won 71.4 percent of her draws.
Concordia Wisconsin turns its attention to No. 9 Adrian. The Falcons will host the Bulldogs on Friday and Saturday with key implications for the Kronschnabel Cup. Adrian and Concordia Wisconsin have locked up the top-two spots in the standings. Adrian leads the conference at 42 points at 14-0-0 and Concordia Wisconsin is second at 41 points at 13-0-1.
