Third-Quarter Surge Powers Falcons Past Benedictine

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's basketball team earned its first win of 2026 with a 70-62 victory over Benedictine on Wednesday night. The win marks CUW's fourth straight over the Eagles in the all-time series. The Falcons improve to 3-10 overall and 4-3 in NACC play.

The game remained tight heading into halftime, with Concordia holding a 29-27 advantage after junior Gracie McNabb (Grafton, Wis.) knocked down a jumper in the final seconds of the second quarter.

The Falcons began to pull away in the third quarter, using a 13-3 run over a 4:42 stretch. Benedictine's only points during the run came from the free-throw line, while CUW was a perfect 5-of-5 from the field. McNabb led the surge with five points, and four other Falcons contributed two points apiece.

Concordia maintained its lead the rest of the way despite a late Benedictine push in the fourth quarter. Three trips to the free-throw line in the final minute sealed the Falcons' victory.

CUW led for 77.4 percent of the contest and built its largest lead of the game at 14 points in the fourth quarter.

McNabb finished with a career-high 21 points, shooting 50 percent from the field and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line. Junior Andrea Butterbrodt (Green Bay, Wis.) also reached double figures with 15 points.

The Falcons were perfect from the charity stripe as a team, going 13-for-13. It marks just the fifth time in program history that CUW has shot 100 percent from the free-throw line, with the last occurrence coming at Dominican on Feb. 2, 2018 (10-for-10).

Sophomore Alexa Schwartz (Treynor, Iowa)led the Falcons on the glass with six rebounds, while freshman Amya Pluess (Burlington, Wis.) added five boards.

Concordia returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Wisconsin Lutheran. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Time of Grace Center.
