Falcons Fall 2-0 at Home

MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin field hockey team (3-8, 1-2 CHFC) fell 2-0 to Rhodes (10-1, 3-0 CFHC) on Saturday afternoon at Tomasini Stadium.

Rhodes struck first at the 4:08 mark in the first quarter, as senior midfielder Virginia Shuff found the back of the net off an assist from senior midfielder Addison Jones to give her team a 1-0 lead.

The Falcons looked to respond, as freshman forward Aly Schuster (Colgate, Wis.) put two goals on target late in the first quarter, but Rhodes goalkeeper Caroline Naifeh turned away both attempts to preserve the lead.

Concordia Wisconsin outshot Rhodes 2-1 in the first quarter.

Junior goalkeeper Carlijn van der Bend (Voorburg, Netherlands) kept the Falcons within striking distance in the second quarter, earning three saves as Rhodes continued to pressure the CUW defense.

However, the Lynx doubled their lead in the third quarter when senior forward Alder Dickey scored off an assist from senior forward Bella Spina at the 33:07 mark.

Concordia Wisconsin earned a penalty corner late in the fourth quarter and continued to battle, but Rhodes held on to secure the 2-0 victory.

Van der Bend finished with seven saves for the Falcons, who limited the Lynx to two goals despite facing 19 shots. Junior forward Rylee Binley (Suffolk, Va.) started her first match since Sept. 13.

Concordia Wisconsin will host Sewanee on Sunday for Senior Day at 12 p.m. CST.
