Sowadski Nets First Career Goal in Falcons' Season Finale

MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin men's soccer team (3-12-1, 2-9-1 NACC) fell to the Marian Sabres (2-13-2, 2-9-1 NACC) 4-1 Wednesday afternoon at Fitting Field in the final match of the season.

The Falcons struck first when freshman forward Shawn Sowadski (Mosinee, Wis.) netted his first career goal in the seventh minute to take an early 1-0 lead. The goal was assisted by sophomore forward Matthew Payne (Franklin, Ind.), marking his first assist of the year.

However, the Sabres found the equalizer in the 12th minute, as well as the go-ahead goal in the 17th minute to go ahead 2-1.

Concordia Wisconsin headed into the locker room trailing by one, as each team had attempted eight shots after the opening 45 minutes.

In the second half, Marian added two more goals in the 52nd and 59th minutes, holding off CUW for the rest of the match to secure the 4-1 victory. Despite the loss, the Falcons outshot the Sabres 12-4 in the second frame.

Concordia Wisconsin will return to the field in fall of 2027.
