Women's Soccer Falls 3-1 at Edgewood

VERONA, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin women's soccer team (3-7, 2-3 NACC) fell to the Edgewood Eagles (3-6-2, 3-1-1 NACC) 3-1 Saturday afternoon at Redden Park.

In the first half, neither side was able to find the back of the net. Concordia Wisconsin outshot Edgewood 9-8 in the first frame, recording five of those shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Kara Claussner (St. Charles, Ill.) earned two saves in the first 45 minutes.

It was Edgewood that got on the board first, scoring in the 64th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Eagles then converted a penalty kick to double their lead in the 65th minute.

In the 66th minute, freshman midfielder Aimie Gorman (Kenosha, Wis.) netted her first career goal to cut her team's deficit to one. The goal was assisted by sophomore forward Koffy'e Chappel (Oakland, Calif.).

Edgewood found the back of the net once more in the 71st minute to cap off the scoring and secure the 3-1 victory.

Junior midfielder Jacey Read (Carbondale, Colo.) led the Falcons with five shots. Chappel's assist marked her first of the season.

The Birds will finish out their two-game road trip against Concordia Chicago on Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. CST.
