Men's Soccer Earns First Conference Win

MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin men's soccer team (2-8-1, 1-5 NACC) defeated the Concordia Chicago Cougars (2-7-2, 1-5-1 NACC) 2-1 Wednesday afternoon at Fitting Field to earn its first conference win.

The Falcons struck first in the 38th minute when freshman forward Hayden Bumgarner (Hartland, Wis.) found the back of the net to put his team up 1-0. The goal was assisted by senior defender Nolan Hessenthaler (Neenah, Wis.).

In the 42nd minute, freshman midfielder Junior Omary (Dar es Salaam, Tanzania) fired the ball into the back of the net to double Concordia Wisconsin's lead heading into the locker room. The goal was assisted by Bumgarner.

The Falcons outshot the Cougars 15-8 in the first frame.

In the second half, Concordia Chicago got onto the scoresheet in the 86th minute, but Concordia Wisconsin's defense held strong as it maintained its lead and secured the 2-1 win.

The Falcons outshot the Cougars 24-13 in the match, marking a season-high in shot attempts for the team.

Bumgarner's goal marked the first of his career. Hessenthaler's assist was his second of the season. Omary's goal was his third of the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Logan Montgomery (McKinney, Texas) tied a season-high with six saves in the match.

The Falcons will host the MSOE Raiders on Oct. 10 at 12:30 p.m. CST at Fitting Field.
