Falcons Shutout the Saints in Overtime

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Concordia Wisconsin ACHA men's hockey team closed the regular season in thrilling fashion on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons picked up a 1-0 overtime victory to finish the regular season with a 20-13 record.

The two teams skated to a scoreless first period to start the Sunday contest with the Saints holding a 9-7 advantage in shots.

The Falcons were able to keep Maryville off the scoreboard after some Falcon penalties in the second period.

Senior Austin Bartell (New Berlin, Wis.) made some key saves to keep the contest scoreless after 60 minutes.

Concordia was able to possess the puck for a majority of the overtime session and after Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.) found junior Chuck Emme (Glenview, Ill.) with a pass, Emme was able to juke past a defender and cruise to the net where he scored the lone goal of the game.

Austin Bartell stopped all 26 shots he faced. Sunday was the fourth shutout of the season and the second of the weekend.

The 1-0 result is the second-lowest combined-scoring contest in program history. The 0-0 tie against No. 4 St. Thomas on Feb. 4, 2023, is the lowest scoring contest.

The Falcons turn their attention to the Northern Collegiate Hockey League Hap Cup Playoffs. The Blue and White enter the weekend as the second seed and will face Aurora on Friday afternoon. If the Falcons advance, they will face the winner of the Marian and DePaul contest.  Purdue Northwest will take on Wisconsin-Oshkosh in the one vs. eight game and Lewis will face Marquette in the four against five battle.
