DE PERE, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin men's ice hockey team saw its season come to a close on Saturday with a loss to St. Norbert in Game 2 of the NCHA Harris Cup Quarterfinals. The Falcons finish the year 10-16-1 overall and 6-11-1 in conference play.
The Green Knights struck early, scoring twice in the opening period before adding another at 6:23 of the second. Concordia responded less than a minute later when juniors
Riley Klugerman (Aurora, Ont.) and
Alex Ochitwa (Prince George, B.C.) set up sophomore
Connor Van Weelie (Mississauga, Ont.) for his 15th goal of the season, breaking up the shutout bid.
St. Norbert maintained control the rest of the way, adding five unanswered goals to secure both the game and the quarterfinal series.
Junior
Blake Hazelton (Lake Orion, Mich.) made the start in goal, recording 20 saves over 32:21. Sophomore
Ewan McDevitt (Brookfield, Wis.) played the final 27:39 and turned aside 15 shots.
Ochitwa led the Falcons with four shots on goal, while freshman
Cooper Brown (Airdrie, Alta.) and junior
Matt Koepke (Vernon Hills, Ill.) added three apiece. Senior
Noah Roitman (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) anchored the defense with three blocked shots.
At the faceoff dot, Van Weelie went 10-for-19, and sophomore
Levi Carter (Keremeos, B.C.) finished 8-for-15.
