Butterfass Sets Block Record as Falcons Top Marian

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin men's volleyball team earned its first win of the season on Saturday, defeating Marian, 3–1, in NACC action. The Falcons improve to 1-10 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

CUW controlled the net all afternoon, totaling 20.5 team blocks to set a new program record for a four-set match, surpassing the previous mark of 16.5 set against Lakeland in 2020. Sophomore Parker Butterfass (Shakopee, Minn.) led the effort with 11 total blocks (10 assists, one solo), breaking the school's four-set individual record of 10 previously held by Lucas Beres (2023).

Butterfass also matched the program record for service aces in a four-set match with five, joining Logan Kebisek (2025) and Beres (2024).

The Falcons opened with a marathon 30-28 first-set win, hitting .349 with 19 kills and just four errors. Marian answered to even the match, but CUW responded with a decisive 25-16 third set, fueled by a 7-1 run.

Set four also extended past regulation before the Falcons closed out the victory. A kill from sophomore Reid Scott (Chandler, Ariz.) followed by a triple block from senior Tate Miller (Anthem, Ariz.), Scott, and Butterfass sealed the match.

Sophomore Owen Kolozsy (Carol Stream, Ill.) recorded his third double-double of the season with a team-high 16 kills on .375 hitting and 11 digs. Scott added 12 kills, while setter Hayden Hurley dished out 40 assists on CUW's 49 total kills. Freshman libero Cooper Dammann (Altadena, Calif.) contributed 11 digs.

The Falcons return to the road Wednesday for a 7 p.m. NACC matchup at Illinois Tech's Keating Sports Center in Chicago.
