MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin men's basketball team saw its season come to a close with a 72–52 loss to Marian University in the NACC Tournament Quarterfinals on Tuesday night. The Falcons finish the year 14–12 overall and 12–6 in conference play.
The Sabres controlled the game from the outset, building a 30–11 advantage by halftime and limiting CUW's offensive rhythm in the opening 20 minutes.
The Falcons showed renewed energy to start the second half, highlighted by a three-pointer from junior
Casey Verhagen (Sheboygan Wis.) to open the half. Concordia played nearly even with Marian over the final period, but early foul trouble and the sizable first-half deficit proved too much to overcome.
Verhagen led CUW with 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Sophomore
Luke Eggemeyer (Perryville, Mo.) added 13 points and a team-high six rebounds. Defensively, Eggemeyer and junior
Severin Hilt (West Bend, Wis.) paced the Falcons with three steals apiece.
Tuesday's contest marked the final collegiate game for CUW's senior class of
Will Bauer (New Berlin, Wis.),
Sean Earley (Hickory Hills, Ill.), and
Logan Landers (Cedarburg, Wis.), who conclude their careers in the Royal Blue & White.
