ANGOLA, Ind. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's volleyball team fell 0-3 at Trine on Saturday in the first game of a two-game road trip. The Falcons dropped to 0-8 on the season.
The two teams traded points throughout the first set until a Thunder run pushed the score to 24-21. Facing set point, the Falcons battled back as three Trine errors—two forced by blocks from seniors
Will Wood (Savage, Minn.) and
Tate Miller (Anthem, Ariz.)—tied the set at 24-24. However, Trine responded with two straight points to claim the opener.
CUW started hot in the second set, jumping out to an early 9-3 lead. sophomore
Reid Scott (Chandler, Ariz.) contributed three kills during that stretch, while fellow sophomores
Owen Kolozsy (Carol Stream, Ill.) and
Parker Butterfass (Shakopee, Minn.) added two and one, respectively.
The Thunder rallied back to take a 24-22 lead late in the set. Once again, the Falcons refused to go quietly, scoring three straight points—powered by two Trine errors and a Butterfass kill—to take a 25-24 lead and force extra points. But just like in the first set, Trine closed strong, winning the next three rallies to take a 2-0 match lead.
Despite a strong showing in the third set, the Thunder closed out the match with a straight-set victory.
Kolozsy led the Falcon offense with 14 kills on a .273 hitting percentage. The sophomore also recorded 15 digs for his second double-double of the season. Scott was also key offensively, tallying 10 kills. Sophomore Setter
Hayden Hurley (Gilbert, Ariz.) distributed 28 assists.
On defense, freshman
Drew Nelson (Oak Creek, Wis.) served as the primary libero for CUW, leading the team with 18 digs. Butterfass anchored the front line with six block assists and one solo block, both team highs. Miller led the team with two solo blocks while adding four block assists.
