MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's lacrosse team battled hard on a windy day against Wisconsin-Stout on Friday afternoon. The Falcons moved to 1-3 on the year with a 9-14 loss to the Blue Devils.
Stout struck first on Friday with a woman-up goal.
Senior Katelyn Cardinale (Mount Laurel, N.J.) tied the game later in the quarter off a pass from junior Carolyn Bourgeault (Buffalo, N.Y.).
Stout beat the buzzer with a last-second goal to end the first quarter.
Senior Claire Geidel (Seward, Neb.) tied the game at two to start the second quarter on a free position shot.
After UWS took the lead once again, senior Makayla Spejcher tied the game with a free position goal for her first career goal.
With 1:53 left in the half, Katelyn Cardinale tied the game at four on a free position shot.
CUW claimed the lead in the final minute of the quarter when Anna Washburn buried a sharp-angled shot off an assist from Faith Schmitz.
Stout raced back down the field and scored in the final seconds to send the teams into halftime tied at five.
Katelyn Cardinale started the third-quarter scoring on a free position shot, but momentum quickly turned after UWS won the draw control, marched down the field, and scored. The visitors then added two more goals over the next two minutes.
A free position goal from Katelyn Cardinale cut the Concordia deficit to 8-7.
Claire Geidel ended the quarter with a woman-up free position goal to trim the Stout lead to 9-8 heading into the fourth quarter.
UWS scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter before Katelyn Cardinale found the back of the net on another free position shot.
The Blue Devils iced the game with the next two goals to secure the win.
Stout held a 42-21 advantage in shots on Friday, including a 31-17 mark in shots on goal.
Junior Parks Cawthray (Oakville, Ontario) finished with a season-best 20 saves.
The Falcons return to action on Tuesday at North Central.
