Falcons Sweep Rockford, Set Program Hitting Record

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin men's volleyball team defeated Rockford 3-0 in dominant fashion Wednesday night inside the R. John Buuck Field House. With the sweep, the Falcons have yet to lose a set to the Regents, winning all six meetings in straight sets. CUW improves to 5-17 overall and 4-7 in NACC play.

The Falcons were unstoppable offensively, setting a new program record with a .547 hitting percentage against the Regents. CUW recorded 41 kills on 64 attempts with just six errors, surpassing the previous record set last season against Russell Sage. It also marks just the third time in program history the Royal Blue and White have hit above .500 in a match.

The match began with a strong 12-2 run by the Falcons. Sophomore Owen Kolozsy (Carol Stream, Ill.) recorded two kills during the stretch while four other Falcons added one each. CUW maintained its offensive momentum, taking the opening set 25-7 while hitting an impressive .650 with 13 kills and no errors. The Falcons also tallied five service aces in the first set alone.

CUW continued to control the match, recording 14 kills in each of the final two sets to secure the sweep. Freshman Josh Valentine (Euless, Texas) delivered the final two kills to seal the victory.

Serving was another key factor in the Falcons' performance, as CUW finished with 12 service aces — the fourth-most in a single match in program history. Sophomore Hayden Hurley (Gilbert, Ariz.) led the way with four aces, tying for the fourth-most in a three-set match in program history. Sophomore Parker Butterfass (Shakopee, Minn.), senior Will Wood (Savage, Minn.), and Valentine each added two aces, while sophomore Ryan Burris (Avon, Ind.) and Valentine recorded the first aces of their collegiate careers.

Valentine led the Falcons with seven kills while hitting .500. Freshman Jian Bacerdo (Oswego, Ill.) was perfect offensively with five kills on five attempts, while senior Chase Ammons (Elm Grove, Wis.) added four kills on four swings. Kolozsy and Hurley each recorded four kills, and Butterfass contributed five.

Hurley served as the primary setter for CUW, finishing with 18 assists, while sophomore Logan Rauter (West Allis, Wis.) added 10 assists off the bench.

At the net, the Falcons totaled 12 block assists against Rockford. Ammons led the team with three, while Kolozsy, Wood, and Butterfass each recorded two.

The Falcons return to the R. John Buuck Field House on Saturday for their final regular-season match. CUW will host Lakeland in the annual Highway 57 Cup, with first serve scheduled for 1 p.m.
