MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin men's tennis team earned its first NACC victory of the season with a dominant 7-0 sweep of Concordia Chicago on Saturday morning.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 10-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play. CUW continues its perfect run against the Cougars, winning all 19 meetings in the all-time series dating back to March 2006. The sweep also marks the eighth consecutive shutout of Concordia Chicago.
The Falcons secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. The top pairing of sophomore
Hayden Latus (Waukesha, Wis.) and freshman
Murilo Zeni (Curitiba, Brazil) earned a victory, while freshmen
Gustavo Funo (Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil) and
Renan Botelho (Itatiba, Crazil) followed suit at No. 3. The No. 2 duo of sophomore
Ryan Bilan (Greendale, Wis.) and junior
Kristopher Greenhaw (Huntington Beach, Calif.) fell in a tight 6-4 decision.
In singles play, CUW controlled the match from start to finish. Latus picked up the first point after his opponent retired. Zani (6-1, 6-0) and Funo (6-0, 6-0) delivered dominant straight-set wins, setting the tone for the rest of the lineup. Bilan (6-2, 6-1), Botelho (6-2, 6-0), and Greenhaw (6-3, 6-3) completed the sweep.
