MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin softball team hosted the Marian Sabres on Thursday evening in a pair of home contests for Marian. The games could not be played in Fond du Lac due to the field conditions. The Sabres snagged the sweep with 9-7 and 4-3 victories to pull the Falcons out of first place in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
The Falcons were the first on the scoreboard on Thursday when sophomore Anya Weiler (Wilson, Wis.) flied out to center field to score junior Jenna Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.) on a sacrifice fly.
The Sabres struck back with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
With the bases loaded in the second inning, senior Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.) hit a double off the fence in center field that cleared the bases of sophomore Natalie Kinney (Roscoe, Ill.), senior Julia Moker (Richfield, Wis.) and senior Nora Statz (Helenville, Wis.).
The Black and Blue once again tied the game at four in the bottom half of the inning.
The Falcons reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning when Jenna Shadoski doubled off the fence in left field to send in Julia Moker.
Shadoski struck again with a single in the sixth inning down the right-field line to score Natalie Kinney and freshman Meredith Cann (Naperville, Ill.).
The Sabres tie the game in the sixth inning with a three-run home run and walked off in the seventh inning with a two-run shot.
In the circle, junior Emma Shellstrom (San Diego, Calif.) finished with two strikeouts.
Jenna Shadoski led the contest with three hits and a stolen base.
The Falcons took another first inning lead in game two when senior Maggie Plahmer (Slinger, Wis.) doubled to center field and Nora Statz sprinted home.
Marian tried to be tricky in the third inning and tried to steal second, but junior Lydia Trudell (New Berlin, Wis.) threw out the runner.
The Sabres scored all they needed with a grand slam in the fourth inning.
The Falcons continued to battle and Jenna Shadoski had a solo home run in the fifth inning over the fence in center field.
Jenna Lischka then scored Rylie DuVal in the sixth inning on a shot to third base.
Freshman Faith Keiper (Tomball, Texas) had four strikeouts in the start and junior Kylie Strupp (Slinger, Wis.) had two strikeouts in the sixth inning.
The Falcons look to bounce back on Sunday against Edgewood.
