Softball Bounces Back on Sunday

MEQUON, Wis. – It was a roller-coaster of a day for the Concordia Wisconsin softball program. The Falcons hosted the Eagles of Edgewood University on Sunday and fell in game one, 5-10, but bounced back in game two with an 8-2 victory.

Senior Nora Statz (Helenville, Wis.) started the Sunday scoring in the first inning of game one with a single through the right side of the infield that scored junior Jenna Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.) from second base after she stole second base.

The Eagles tied the game in the second inning with a bases-loaded walk, but a ground out then ended the first Edgewood threat.

Freshman Faith Keiper (Tomball, Texas) gave the Falcons the lead once again in the fourth inning with a three-run home run over the fence in center field that also scored senior Maggie Plahmer (Slinger, Wis.) and senior Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.).

Maggie Plahmer added to the lead in the fifth inning with a blast to third scored Nora Statz.

The Falcons held that lead until the seventh inning.

Nora Statz led the Falcons with two hits in game one.

Freshman Grace Olson (Kenosha, Wis.) recorded her first career hit in game one and also stole a base.

The Blue and White broke open game two with a historic moment when Jenna Shadoski started the first inning with an infield single. She then stole second base to break the school record for stolen bases in a single season. Stephanie Brunette had held the record of 29 since the 2010 season.

Junior Isa Bruno (Chicago, Ill.) then scored Shadoski from second base on a single to right field.

Grace Olson notched her first RBI of her career with a shot to second base that plated Rylie DuVal.

Junior Kaitlyn Way (Blaine, Minn.) closed the first inning scoring with a double into the gap in left-center field that landed Isa Bruno on home plate.

Edgewood tried scoring in the second inning on an error, but Jenna Lischka sent a rocket to the plate and junior Kendall Lemke (Helenville, Wis.) tagged out the Eagle.

The Eagles landed a run in the third inning to cut the Concordia lead to 3-1.

The Falcons earned the run back quickly in the third inning with a home run for Rylie DuVal.

Jenna Shadoski struck again in the fourth inning with a double down the left-field line to score Kendall Lemke and junior Jenna Lischka (Manitowoc, Wis.).

Jenna Lischka elevated the Concordia lead to 7-1 with a sacrifice fly that scored Grace Olson in the fifth inning.

Concordia collected another sacrifice fly in the sixth inning when Rylie DuVal sent the ball to deep center field so Jenna Shadoski could trot across home plate once again.

Edgewood tried to mount a comeback in the seventh inning and scored a run on a shot to right field but Grace Olson turned back momentum as she threw out the batter at first from right field.

Jenna Shadoski led the Falcons with three hits, two runs, two RBI and two stolen bases in game two.

Sophomore Peyton Arendt (Waukesha, Wis.) was strong for the Falcons in the start in game two. Faith Keiper earned the victory with only one hit allowed and a strikeout.

The Falcons are now 19-13 on the year and 10-6 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

The Blue and White will face Alverno on Saturday, the Inferno won their first NACC game since 2024 with a Sunday victory over Concordia Chicago.
