Falcons Douse the Inferno

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin softball bats scorched the Alverno Inferno on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons burned Alverno to the tune of 26-0 and 6-0 victories to improve to 21-13 on the year and 12-6 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

The 26 runs are the third most in program history and the most since the 30 runs scored at Maranatha Baptist on April 14, 2009.

The Falcons were only able to score one run in the first inning, when senior Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.) singled through the left side of the infield to score junior Jenna Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.) who had stolen second and third base.

The Falcons scored seven runs in the second inning on Saturday. Senior Nora Statz (Helenville, Wis.) started the spree with a double into the gap in left-center scoring senior Julia Moker (Hubertus, Wis.) and sophomore Natalie Kinney (Roscoe, Ill.).

A throwing error scored Rylie DuVal and Nora Statz.

A junior Jenna Lischka (Manitowoc, Wis.) sacrifice fly allowed senior Maggie Plahmer (Slinger, Wis.) to trot home.

Sophomore Anya Weiler (Hudson, Wis.) raced home on a wild pitch and freshman Faith Keiper (Tomball, Texas) crossed home plate on a dropped fly ball off the bat of Julia Moker.

Concordia continued to pile on in the third inning when Rylie DuVal (started the inning with a home run to left field.

Jenna Lischka earned the second-base scuba celebration with a double to left-center field that plated Maggie Plahmer.

Natalie Kinney then cleared the base with a single to left field, scoring Jenna Lischka and Anya Weiler.

Julia Moker crushed a double to center field and Natalie Kinney scored from second base.

Moker then scored on a bases-loaded walk of Rylie DuVal.

Maggie Plahmer crushed the ball over the left field fence for a grand slam, plating Rylie DuVal, Nora Statz and Jenna Shadoski.

Jenna Shadoski struck again in the fifth inning with a single through the left side to score Faith Keiper.

Nora Statz singled to center field to have freshman Meredith Cann (Naperville, Ill.) score.

Rylie DuVal was walked again with the bases loaded and freshman Kelsey Behnke (Manawa, Wis.) stomped on home plate.

The Inferno learned their lesson from the grand slam and hit Maggie Plahmer as the tenderized senior reached first base and scored Shadoski.

Junior Lydia Trudell (New Berlin, Wis.) was walked and Nora Statz scored.

A Faith Keiper double then scored Maggie Plahmer and Rylie DuVal and the scoring ended with Kelsey Behnke singling to left field to send Lydia Trudell on the short walk home.

The Inferno started the comeback in the fifth inning with double and a walk, but a line out ended the threat.

Faith Keiper didn't need much run support as she received in the circle and only allowed one hit and finished with eight strikeouts.

Jenna Shadoski stole two bases in game one.

Maggie Plahmer led the game with three hits and Faith Keiper was walked four times.

The 23 RBI are the second most in a game. The 19 walks crush the record of 15, breaking the Maranatha Baptist game in 2009. The four hit by pitches also ties the record.

The game two recap is thankfully much shorter.

Jenna Shadoski led things off in game two with a home run to left field.

The Birds did not score again until the sixth inning when freshman Hope Hughes (Joliet, Ill.) doubled to right field and allowed Meredith Cann to come home. A Jenna Lischka double then scored Hughes.

In the seventh inning, junior Isa Bruno (Chicago, Ill.) kept the ball fair and had a homerun down the left0field line, also scoring Nora Statz and Jenna Shadoski.

Junior Emma Shellstrom (San Diego, Calif.) was once again amazing and traumatizing in the circle and was a strike away from a no-hitter performance, but kept the Inferno bats ice cold with no walks and five strikeouts.

Jenna Shadoski and Meredith Cann both snagged a base in game two.

Isa Bruno led the charge with three hits.

The Falcons will look to stay hot on Sunday when they host St. Norbert on senior day.
