Softball Sweeps St. Norbert on Senior Day

MEQUON, Wis. – There was plenty to celebrate for the Concordia Wisconsin softball team on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons brought out the brooms against the Green Knights with 12-5 and 10-2 victories to celebrate senior day. The pair of victories send the Falcons to 23- 13 on the year and 14-6 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

The Falcons honored the senior class of Julia Moker (Richfield, Wis.), Maggie Plahmer (Slinger, Wis.), Jenna Lischka (Manitowoc, Wis.), Kaitlyn Way (Blaine, Minn.), Nora Statz (Helenville, Wis.) and Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.).

The Falcons threw the first punch in the second inning on Sunday when freshman Faith Keiper (Tomball, Texas) crushed the ball over the fence in left field to also score Maggie Plahmer after she reached on a walk.

Julia Moker added to the lead with an infield shot that plated Jenna Lischka.

Junior Jenna Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.) put the Falcons up 4-0 with a slow-rolling single to third base that scored sophomore Natalie Kinney (Roscoe, Ill.).

A pair of home runs powered the Green and Gold comeback in the third inning to tie the game at four.

A Jenna Shadoski single gave the Falcons the lead once again after the shot to left field scored freshman Meredith Cann (Naperville, Ill.).

The Green Knights proved to be pesky and once again tied the game in the top of the fifth inning.

The Falcons wasted no time reviving the lead in the bottom half of the inning when Jenna Lischka poked the ball to shortstop and Rylie DuVal scored.

The Blue and White proved its not easy being green when they dropped six runs in the sixth inning.

Maggie Plahmer started the carrousel with a bases-loaded walk to plate Julia Moker.

Another four-straight balls to freshman Hope Hughes (Joliet, Ill.) allowed Jenna Shadoski to strut home.

Jenna Lischka bucked the walking trend and cleared the bases with a triple to center field that scored Rylie DuVal, Maggie Plahmer and Hope Hughes.

Kaitlyn Way smacked a single up the middle to score Lischka with ease.

The Green Knights tried to cut into the deficit in the seventh inning but junior Kylie Strupp (Slinger, Wis.) shut the door with a strikeout.

The Falcons drew nine walks in game one, led by Maggie Plahmer with three.

Jenna Shadoski and Natalie Kinney both had a stolen base in game one.

Faith Keiper had three strikeouts in the start on Sunday. Kylie Strupp earned her sixth victory of the year with only two hits against and three strikeouts.

St. Norbert secured its first lead of the day in the second inning of game two with a solo home run in the second inning.

Hope Hughes gave the Falcons the lead in the third inning with a swing of the bat to clear Maggie Plahmer and Rylie DuVal from the base path with a double into the gap in right-center field.

The Green Knights tied the game at two with a double in the fourth inning.

The Birds broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth inning with six runs.

Jenna Shadoski showed off her speed with a triple that also scored freshman Grace Olson (Kenosha, Wis.) and Meredith Cann. A Nora Statz double to left field let Shadoski score easily.

Maggie Plahmer pated Nora Statz with a double to center field.

The triple train continued with the ever so speedy Hopes Hughes with a shot that landed on the right-field line to send home Maggie Plahmer.

Jenna Lischka dropped a single to right field that then scored Hughes.

The Green Knights made some noise in the fifth inning with two base runners but a strikeout from sophomore Peyton Arendt (Waukesha, Wis.) ended the threat.

Maggie Plahmer pounded the ball over the left-field fence for a leadoff home run in the sixth inning.

Julie Moker called game with a single to center field to score Jenna Lischka and activate the run rule.

Maggie Plahmer was a problem at the plate on Sunday and finished with four hits in four at bats.

Jenna Shadoski stole the only base in game two.

Junior Emma Shellstrom (San Diego) was sensational in the circle and had two strikeouts in her ninth victory of the season. Peyton Arendt locked down the Green Knights the rest of the way.

The Falcons are riding a five-game winning streak, tied for the longest streak of the year and will crush their final exams and return to action on Friday at Wisconsin Lutheran.
