MEQUON, Wis. – It was all Concordia Wisconsin on Friday afternoon at Catalyst Park. The Falcons secured two Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference victories, snapping Rockford's winning streak with 13-0 and 8-0 wins. The sweep lifts Concordia to 15-7 overall and 7-1 in NACC play.
The Birds didn't just start fast, they took off in the first inning, hanging five runs on the Regents right out of the gate. Senior
Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.) opened the scoring with a single up the middle that plated junior
Jenna Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.) for her 100th career hit.
With the bases loaded, senior
Nora Statz (Helenville, Wis.) wore one to bring home
Jenna Lischka. The carousel kept spinning as junior
Emma Shellstrom (San Diego, Calif.) knocked in a run with a single to first base, scoring, DuVal, and a wild pitch allowed senior
Maggie Plahmer (Slinger, Wis.) to dash home. Senior
Julia Moker (Richfield, Wis.) capped the inning with an infield single that scored Statz as the Falcons batted around.
Concordia didn't cool off in the second, they turned the heat with seven more runs. DuVal drove in Shadoski again with a single, while Lischka came around on a wild pitch. Junior
Isa Bruno (Chicago, Ill.) laced a double into the left-center gap to score Plahmer, and Moker took one for the team with the bases loaded to bring in Bruno.
Then came the big swing, Shadoski cleared the bases with a double to right field, cashing in Shellstrom, freshman
Hope Hughes (Joliet, Ill.), and Moker.
In the third inning, Statz ripped an RBI down the right-field line to bring in Plahmer.
Rockford threatened in the fourth with three singles, but Shellstrom slammed the door with two strikeouts. She followed it up with a quick 1-2-3 fifth to seal the deal.
Shadoski, DuVal, and Plahmer each tallied two hits in game one, while Shadoski swiped two bases to lead a four-steal effort.
In the circle, Shellstrom was filthy in circle as the Regents needed soap and water to clean up after with six strikeouts in her sixth victory of the year.
Game two picked up right where the first left off. Plahmer got things rolling with a double to left field to score DuVal in the opening inning.
In the second, Lischka unloaded with a double down the left-field line that cleared the bases, scoring junior
Kaitlyn Way (Blaine, Minn.), Moker, and Shadoski.
Lischka stayed hot in the fourth with another RBI double to score Shadoski, then came around to score on a
Rylie DuVal double into nearly the same spot in left-center.
In the fifth, sophomore
Natalie Kinney (Roscoe, Ill.) drove in Statz, and Shadoski ended things in run-rule fashion with a double to left-center, scoring freshman
Grace Olson (Kenosha, Wis.) to walk it off early.
Lischka, DuVal, and Plahmer each collected two hits in game two, while DuVal and Shadoski added a stolen base apiece.
Junior
Kylie Strupp (Slinger, Wis.) kept the Regents on ice in the circle, allowing just two hits and striking out two in her sixth win of the season.
The Falcons racked up six doubles in game two, a season high and the 10th time in program history they've posted six or more. Safe to say, they were seeing the ball very well.
Behind the plate, the duo of junior
Lydia Trudell (New Berlin, Wis.) and junior
Kendall Lemke (Helenville, Wis.) shut down any funny business, allowing no stolen bases or passed balls.
The Falcons will rest up, maybe win a few Easter egg hunts, and hop back into action Monday with a non-conference doubleheader at Carroll.
