MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin field hockey team opened the 2026 season in impressive fashion on Tuesday afternoon, earning a 2-0 shutout victory over Oberlin at Tomasini Stadium.
The Falcons controlled the contest from the opening whistle, outshooting the Yeomen 22-3 and putting 17 shots on goal. Concordia also held a significant advantage in offensive pressure throughout the afternoon.
Concordia got on the scoreboard in the opening quarter when Maddie Rock found the back of the cage to give the Falcons a 1-0 advantage. The Falcons maintained their lead through the remainder of the first quarter and carried the one-goal advantage into the second.
The Falcons added their lead late in the second quarter.
Charlie Coln scored with just over a minute remaining in the half, with Paige Armijo providing the assist. Coln's goal gave Concordia a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.
Concordia continued to apply pressure in the second half, recording nine shots in the third quarter and generating multiple penalty corners. Oberlin goalkeeper turned away several Falcon opportunities to keep the Yeowomen within striking distance.
The Falcons' defense remained strong throughout the final two quarters, limiting Oberlin to just three total shots. Goalkeeper Carlijn van der Bend recorded three saves en route to her
first career shutout, helping Concordia secure the 2-0 victory.
Coln led the Falcons offensively with a team-high six shots, including five on goal, while Rock added three shots and a goal. Emilia Rojas also recorded three shots, all of which were on target. Armijo contributed a goal assist and three shots, while Emily Robertson added an assist.
With the victory, Concordia Wisconsin opens the 2026 campaign 1-0 and will return to action against Kenyon on September 5 at noon.
