MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin women's soccer team (2-3) defeated the Benedictine Eagles (1-5) 5-1 in its first conference game of the season Wednesday night at Fitting Field.

In the 12th minute, sophomore forward Koffy'e Chappel (Oakland, Calif.) gave CUW the 1-0 lead when she received the ball from freshman forward Eden Lake-Swenson (Waukesha, Wis.) in the middle of the box and slotted it into the bottom right corner. 

In the 38th minute, junior midfielder Jacey Read (Carbondale, Colo.) passed the ball to Chappel from the right side of the box, who then spun around and found the back of the net again to give the Falcons a 2-0 advantage.

With four seconds left in the first half, Read got herself onto the score sheet, slipping past the goalkeeper and firing the ball into the net, as Concordia Wisconsin went into the locker room leading 3-0.

The Eagles responded three minutes into the second half with a goal of their own, but that didn't deter the Falcons' offense.

In the 50th minute, Chappel gathered the rebound from Read's shot and found the back of the net to earn her second career hat trick and give her team a 4-1 lead.

Read capped off the scoring in the 73rd minute, heading home a cross from freshman midfielder Christine Long (Cedarburg, Wis.) for her third career brace, as the Falcons earned a 5-1 victory over the Eagles.

CUW outshot Benedictine 16-10 on the night with eight of those being on target. The Falcons are now 19-2-2 all time against the Eagles.

Chappel led all scorers with three goals, while Read added two goals and two assists. Long and Lake-Swenson's assists marked the first of their careers.

Concordia Wisconsin will continue conference play and travel to Wauwatosa, Wisconsin to face Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. CST.
