WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Concordia Wisconsin men's soccer team (0-2) fell to the Carroll Pioneers (1-2) 2-0 Saturday night at Schneider Stadium.
Carroll struck first in the 10
th minute. Sophomore midfielder Iskander Sharipov received the ball on the left side of the box and slotted it into the bottom right corner of the goal, putting his team ahead early 1-0.
In the 36
th minute, the Pioneers added to their lead. This time, Sharipov sent a free kick into the box, and freshman forward Obada Altahat swiftly headed the ball into the back of the net to give his team a 2-0 advantage.
At halftime, Carroll had an 8-4 shot advantage against Concordia Wisconsin with three of those shots on target.
The Pioneers would not relinquish their lead for the rest of the match, earning their first win of the season.
Despite the loss, the Falcons outshot their opponent 12-11 with six shots on goal. Sophomore
Matthew Payne (Franklin, Ind.) and junior
Jahsiah Acosta (Milwaukee, Wis.) took a combined six shots with three on target.
Concordia Wisconsin will play its first home game on Tuesday, Sept. 9 against Ripon at 4 p.m. CST.
