Curtis Madson completed his eighth season as the head coach of the Concordia University Wisconsin men’s volleyball program in 2025.
Since launching the program, Madson has steadily guided the Falcons forward, building a competitive foundation and achieving several program firsts. Under his leadership, CUW has earned postseason berths, individual accolades, and record-setting performances year after year.
The 2024 season was highlighted by historic milestones. Lucas Beres became the first Falcon named NACC Defensive Player of the Year, ranking second nationally in blocks per set (1.203), and joined Spencer Herman on the All-NACC First Team. Herman, who led the league with 5.01 points per set, earned his third AVCA All-Region honor and shattered career records for kills (1,176) and digs (626). Logan Kebisek became the first CUW player to surpass 2,000 career assists, while Beres set career records in both solo blocks and block assists.
In 2023, the Falcons posted a program-best 15 wins and finished third in the NACC with a 9-3 conference record. CUW went 8-4 at home, and three Falcons received All-NACC honors, including Herman and Beres on the first team, and Ben Kayser on the second team. Kayser also earned AVCA West Region Newcomer of the Year, while Andy Ellingham was named CSC Academic All-District.
CUW won 12 matches in 2022, with Spencer Herman earning AVCA All-American Honorable Mention and AVCA All-Region honors. The program notched its first-ever postseason win in 2021 and its first winning season in 2020, breaking numerous team records in the process. After a winless inaugural season in 2018, Madson led CUW to nine wins in 2019, including their first victory, first conference win, and first postseason berth.
Before CUW, Madson served as head women’s volleyball coach at Westminster College in Missouri, where he compiled 75 wins across four seasons and led the Blue Jays to multiple second-place conference finishes. His coaching résumé also includes stops at Carthage College, UW-Parkside, and extensive experience in high school and club volleyball, including co-founding Southport Volleyball Club.
A native of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, Madson played collegiately at Clarke College and Carthage College, where he was part of two conference titles and a national runner-up finish. He holds a Bachelor’s in Physical Education from Carthage and a Master’s in Athletic Administration from Western Kentucky University.
Madson remains active in regional and national volleyball leadership. He has been on the Badger Region Board of Directors since 2018 and was elected to its Executive Committee in 2024. He has coached in the Badger High-Performance Program six times, including the gold medal-winning 2022 team, and serves as the NACC Men’s Volleyball Coaches Chair. Additionally, he contributes to the AVCA as an All-Region and All-American Committee member, an AVCA poll voter, and joined the NCAA Regional Ranking Committee in 2024.
Madson is married to his wife, Mallory, and the two have a son.
