Watertown
Concordia rolled up 461 yards of offense in
opening the NAC season with a 34- 6 triumph over host Maranatha
Saturday afternoon. CUW
struck early, moving 71 yards in five plays on their first
possession to take a 7-0 lead. Carlton Austin bolted in from 7 yards
out for the initial score.
Kaz Duran got the next two Concordia TDs
during the second quarter, one on a 4 yard run and the other
courtesy of a 5 yard aerial from TJ Pacchioli. Dan Winsey added a 24 yard field goal
as the halftime clock expired to make it 24- 0 at
intermission.
The host Crusaders battled back to get the
only third quarter points on a scoring pass from Andrew Green to
Mike Crawford, but the Falcons dominated from that point on. Winsey added a 46 yard field
goal early in the 4th quarter and Andrew Lanser latched
onto Pacchioli's second TD toss of the afternoon to complete the
scoring.
CUW had success on the ground and through the
air, rushing collectively for 188 yard and throwing for 273
more. Duran was a workhorse
for Concordia with 58 yards on 17 carries and six catches for 63
more yards.
Defensively the Falcons were led by Erik
Prescott who picked off a pair of Green's passes, returning one for
12 yards. CUW (1-0 in the
NAC) hosts Benedictine next Saturday at 1:00pm.
