Falcons push #13 Carthage to the limit

Kenosha

Carthage (7-1) and ranked 13th in the Nation, outscored CUW 25 -7 over the final seven minutes to escape with a hard-earned 74- 62 non-conference win last evening in Kenosha.

Stacey Brunner's young Falcons (5-3), playing their best basketball of the season, led by five points at halftime, 34-29, and had an eight point cushion (55-47) with 6:58 left before the Lady Reds took the game over.

Carthage used a 9-0 run to take a one-point lead, 56-55, at 4:08 before Concordia took one final lead at 57-56. From that point on it was all Carthage.

The Falcons out-rebounded the Lady Reds, 36-31 for the evening but Concordia turned the ball over 23 times compared to 18 errors for Carthage- with many of those CUW giveaways occurring down the stretch .

Dani Ripkey led the hosts with 21 points including a trio of 3 pointers in the final four minutes. Pearl Wallace and Tiffany Hendrickson had 12 points each for Concordia and Kendall Kerns added 10.

"We played 35 minutes of very good basketball…and then they (Carthage) showed why they are ranked so high," said Brunner.
