Kenosha
Carthage (7-1) and
ranked 13th in the Nation, outscored CUW 25 -7 over the final seven
minutes to escape with a hard-earned 74- 62 non-conference win last
evening in Kenosha.
Stacey Brunner's
young Falcons (5-3), playing their best
basketball of the season, led by five points at halftime, 34-29,
and had an eight point cushion (55-47) with 6:58 left before the
Lady Reds took the game over.
Carthage used a 9-0
run to take a one-point lead, 56-55, at 4:08 before Concordia
took one final lead at 57-56. From that point on it was all
Carthage.
The Falcons
out-rebounded the Lady Reds, 36-31 for the evening but
Concordia turned the ball over 23 times compared to 18 errors for
Carthage- with many of those
CUW giveaways occurring down the stretch
.
Dani Ripkey led the
hosts with 21 points including a trio of 3 pointers in the final
four minutes. Pearl Wallace and Tiffany Hendrickson had 12 points
each for Concordia and Kendall Kerns added 10.
"We played 35 minutes
of very good basketball…and then they (Carthage) showed why
they are ranked so high," said Brunner.
