Concordia 68 Edgewood 58
Madison
One measure of a team's improvement is how they fare against
opponents the second time around. Last Wednesday the Falcons
avenged a 3 point home loss to Lakeland by defeating the Muskies by
14 on the road to begin a clear 'peaking for the tournament'
trend. Last Saturday CUW upended Maranatha by 30 at home after
struggling with the Crusaders for a half earlier in the season.
Last night CUW bested first place Edgewood 68- 58 on the road,
negating a one-sided 17 point loss to the same team at home in late
January. "We are an improved team," was Coach Shawn Cassidy's
understatement.
CUW's Skip Newton- Kemp led all scorers with 23 points but Kyle
Barth's 13 rebound effort was just as important. After a tight
26-25 first half, the Falcons pulled away in the second twenty
minutes with solid defense, improved (48%) marksmanship, and
significantly more energy than the hosts.
Concordia, which finished in a tie for second in the NAC regular
season North Division, will travel to Aurora on Saturday for a
4:00pm "crossover" matchup. The game will not count in the league
standings but will determine whether CUW is the fifth or 6th seed
in the league tournament that starts Wednesday.
