CUW needed to win one of their final three games this weekend to make the elite final 4 field for the NAC Tournament and NCAA qualifier. Unfortunately, after dropping the second game of their doubleheader with Aurora on Saturday, the Falcons ran into a hot Benedictine squad on Sunday and could not come up with a win.

Game One

A seven run sixth inning by the Eagles undid CUW in the opener. Concordia got a 4 hit performance from Jon Olla plus homers from Matt Schilter, Derrick Pankow, and Kyle Barth, but CUW left a dozen runners in scoring position during the contest. Trent Duckett (3-6) took the loss.

Game Two

CUW led 4-3 going into the bottom of the fifth, but the hosts tied it then, got two more in the sixth, and put the game away with a 4 run burst in the eighth.

Olla and Brandon Banton had two hits each for Concordia, but a pair of relievers held CUW scoreless over the final five frames. Alex Tomter (2-6) took the loss despite pitching six solid innings. Benedictine finished 14-8 in the league and tied with the disappointed Falcons for 4th place. The Eagles head to the Final 4 NAC matchup by virtue of defeating Concordia (20-17 overall) in both games yesterday.
