Mequon
The visiting Royals of Bethel University appeared to be in
mid-season form, scoring on seven of their eight first half
possessions as they methodically wore down Concordia 52-10 Saturday
afternoon in Mequon.
After kicking off to start the game, CUW held Bethel on downs,
but the ensuing Royal punt was fumbled and Bethel recovered at the
Concordia 17 yard line. Logan Flannery blasted in from 4 yards out
a few plays later and the momentum never shifted again. While
Bethel was churning out huge chunks of real estate offensively, CUW
could get nothing going. Flannery had three more TD runs to his
credit before the first period was over.
It was 42-0 at the half and Concordia had but one first down in
30 minutes of action. Things improved dramatically after the break
with Dan Winsey's field goal getting CUW on the board for the
first time this season ten minutes into the third quarter. By that
time it was 49-3, however. After Bethel countered with a field
goal of their own, Greg Etter's forces got their first TD of the
season when quarterback Anthony Gonzales found Montrell Davidson
with a 77 yard scoring strike.
Kasiem Duran was a bright spot for Concordia, working hard for
40 yards on 10 carries and snagging 4 short passes for another 9
yards. Davidson had 3 catches for 107 yards. Almost all of CUW's
204 yards of offense came after halftime while 330 of Bethel's 452
total yards were accumlated in the first 30 minutes. Linebackers
Andrew Hobus and Ryan Bott led the Falcon tackle charts with 11 and
10 points respectively, but, "Oh man... they (Bethel) got blocking
angles, sustained them, and dominated the line of scrimmage on us",
was one Falcon coach's assessment. CUW hosts Valparaiso next
Saturday at 1:00pm.
