CUW came out on fire, building a 23-8 lead in the early going
and maintaining a relatively safe cushion throughout on the way to
a 93-81 season-opening win over UW- La Crosse this evening.
Mitch Schneider was outstanding offensively, hitting 7 of 11
from the floor and 7-7 from the line while handling the duties of
guarding UW-L's superstar Tony Mane.
Mane was amazing with 29 points but Concordia had beautiful
balance with Luke Doedens (19); Cory Stark (17); and Skip
Newton-Kemp (15) all reaching double figures.
Shawn Cassidy's team built a 39-26 halftime cushion and then
both teams blazed away over the final 20 minutes.
CUW shot 50% for the game from the floor and added 25 of 32 from
the line. UW- L was a very respectable 47% from the field and 18 of
24 from the charity stripe.
Concordia shared the ball well, recording 18 assists in
recording a solid win over the team picked for third in the
WIAC.
