ST CLOUD,
Minn. - A day after falling to St. John's University 5-2,
the Concordia University Wisconsin men's hockey team came away with
a 2-2 tie against the Johnnies on Saturday afternoon.
Goals from freshman Tanner Tryggestad (Amery, Wis.)
and sophomore Russell Johnson (Monticello, Minn.) had the Falcons
in front 2-1 late in the third period, but St. John's rallied to
tie the score with just under two minutes remaining in regulation
time.
CUW (1-7-2, 1-4-1 MCHA)
was outshot 55-22, but made the most of their chances and also got
stellar goaltending from freshman Josh Lehr (Appleton, Wis.).
Tryggestad started
things in the first period, netting a power play goal just minutes
before the first intermission, with junior Graylyn Douglas (Plano,
Texas) and freshman Cole Weiser (Beloit, Wis.) providing the
assists.
St. John's (3-4-2) tied
the game at 1-1 in the second period off a goal from Nick Roscoe,
but the Falcons answered back in the final frame.
Almost midway through
the third period with the Falcons on the power play, Johnson scored
his team-leading seventh goal of the year to regain the lead for
CUW, with Weiser and sophomore Shay Klitzke (Annandale, Minn.)
assisting.
But the Johnnies
rallied once again, as Connor Rooney scored with 1:45 left in
regulation to tie the score at 2-2.
The two teams played a
five-minute overtime period, but neither side could break the
deadlock.
The Falcons now have a
week to rest before a pair of home games against conference foe
Adrian College next weekend.
