Mequon -
It was a historic Saturday (yet extremely cold) afternoon on the
Mequon campus, as the Concordia Women's Lacrosse team hosted their
first ever match at Fitting Field, falling 10-6 to Albion College
in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference opener.
Falling behind 1-0 on a goal just six seconds in, the Falcons
battled back down 1-0, 2-1, 3-2 and 5-3, evening the game at 5-5 by
halftime. However, the Britons made some halftime adjustments and
came out and scored five unanswered goals in the second half to
take complete control.
Once again CUW was led by the speed of Sam Meuwissen, who scored
four goals and has now tallied nine of the team's 13 scores in
their first five games. Erin Lau notched her second goal of the
season and Marie Melton notched her first in the loss.
Coming in with four goals in three games, Melissa DiRado led the
way for Albion with six of their 10 goals. The Britons, who were
outshot 26-21, also received goals from Jaylin Feldt, Lindsey Sowa,
Lisa Davignon and Kon Salkeld.
The Falcons, now 0-5 overall and 0-1 in league play, look to
pick up their first victory on Sunday morning at 11am, hosting the
conference's preseason favorite Adrian College.
