OSHKOSH, Wis. - Concordia
University Wisconsin dropped a pair of matches during the opening
day of the UW-Oshkosh Invitational on Friday afternoon. The Falcons
fell 3-1 (25-11, 25-20, 23-25, 25-17) to host-UW-Oshkosh, before
being swept 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-11) by Carroll University at the
Kolf Sports Center.
The Falcons (1-10) weren't able
to counter the Titans (5-6) front line as they fell behind early.
UWO took the opening frame easily before CUW responded in the
second frame. The Falcons stayed alive in the match by winning the
third set, but the Titans - the co-defending Wisconsin
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season champions -
showed off their strength and power in the fourth frame to capture
the match.
CUW wasn't able to connect with
each other in its second match of the day against the Pioneers
(5-7). CU found the openings on offense and attacked the lines to
build several large leads and eventually claimed the match
sweep.
The Falcons return to action on
Saturday against Ripon College at 10 a.m., before wrapping up the
Invitational against Marin Luther College at 2 p.m.
