MEQUON, Wis. -- Concordia University Wisconsin's women's
basketball team rolled to their 10th Northern Athletics Conference
conference win of the season with a 71-55 win over Maranatha
Baptist Bible College on Thursday evening inside the R. John Buuck
Field House.
Sophomore Katie Luethe (Oshkosh, Wis.) led the way for the Falcons
with a career-best 25 point performance that included 9-of-11 from
the charity stripe. Luethe was the only CUW player in double
figures, but six of her teammates scored between six and eight
points.
CUW built a 39-23 halftime cushion
and the teams essentially played on even terms throughout the
second half.
MBBC actually trailed by just 22-19
with eight minutes left in the first half before Luethe went on a
personal 10 point Falcon spree to break the game open.
CUW head coach Stacey Brunner-Jones' team was a torrid 6-of-10 from
beyond the arc with Luethe and junior Tiffany Hendrickson
(Ingleside, Ill.) each going 2-for-2 from distance.
The Falcons won the rebounding battle 33-30 against a solid
rebounding team and also forced 18 MBBC turnovers. Both teams shot
at a 44 percent clip from the field, but CUW's 3-point shooting and
a 13-7 edge in free throws were the difference.
Laci Peterson led the Crusaders with 18 points while teammates
Torey DeLosier and Autumn Peotter added 11 each, but no other
Crusader had more than four points.
The Falcons (10-6, 10-2 NAC) travel
to Rockford College on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. matchup.
