MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Soccer team began the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference portion of its schedule on a winning note, downing Wisconsin Lutheran 3-1 at Fitting Field on Saturday. The Falcons got three points from freshman Dagoberto Diaz in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons got on the board 7:19 into play when junior Jordan Moehn (Fond du Lac, Wis.) scored on a header. Moehn's goal was set up by a terrific long throw in by freshman Gavin Falotico (Palatine, Ill.).
- Sophomore Luis Loya (Bolingbrook, Ill.) made the score 2-0 in the 28th minute as he beat the Warriors keeper on the right side from about 20 yards out. Loya's goal was set up by Diaz (Woodburn, Ore.) and senior Keegan Van Dusseldorp (Burlington, Wis.).
- The Warriors would cut into the Falcons lead before halftime as Austin Drake converted a penalty kick with just over eight minutes remaining in the first half.
- CUW would gain the only score of the second half as Diaz took a cross from junior Justin Clayton (Crete, Ill.) and beat the keeper for his second goal of the season.
- Senior Alec Brew (Appleton, Wis.) continued his strong play in net for the Falcons as he made five saves for his fifth win of the season. The Falcons outshot the Warriors by an 18-13 count in the match.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Falcons started 1-0-0 in NACC play for the first time since the 2012 season. The last two years the Falcons dropped NACC openers against league power Dominican.
- Van Dusseldorp's assist allowed him to start the season with a point in six of the Falcons first seven matches. He ranks second in the NACC with seven goals and 16 points this season.
- Brew is off to a terrific start this season as he currently leads the NACC with a .882 save percentage and a 0.60 goals against average. He also has three shutouts thus far.
THE OPPOSITION
- Drake finished with five shots to pace the Warriors, while Cedric Guichard made seven saves.
UP NEXT
- The Falcons will take to the road Wednesday for a non-conference match at No. 14 UW-Whitewater. The match between CUW and the Warhawks is set for a 5 p.m. start.
