MEQUON, Wis. - After coming off a 0-3 loss to No. 9 Carthage, the Falcons were able to defend their home court on Thursday night against Wisconsin Lutheran with a 3-0 sweep.
The Blue and White kicked off the season with a school-record of 17 service aces in the victory. Junior James Althoff (Kenosha, Wis.) set the school record for individual service aces for a total of nine.
Coach Madson comments on the school record, "For as happy as I am with the school record of 17 aces tonight, we left some points on the floor with our misses. We need to continue with that serving intensity, but remain consistent."
The Falcons were able to put the first two points on the board, which would set the tone for the rest of the match.
Althoff would have three service aces in a row to increase the Falcon's lead 10-2.
The Falcons would go on to win the first set, 25-10.
Senior Matthew Korman (Roscoe, Ill.) and Freshman Spencer Herman (Appleton, Wis.) would tally three points in a row for the second set.
Concordia would take the second set 25-14.
In the third set, Sophomore Andy Ellingham (Burlington, Wis.) and Althoff would put up numerous points to secure the third set and match at 25-18.
Coach Madson reflects on how far the team has come in four years, "WLC was where we were four years ago, I think they did a great job battling with us. They gave us a little run in the second. I was happy we were able to shake it off and refocus."
