FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The CUW men's volleyball team fell to 1-2 on the year and 1-1 in NACC play with a 0-3 loss at Marian on Tuesday night. The Sabres took the match, 25-23, 28-26, 25-16.
After trailing in the first set, 1-4, the Sabres used an 8-1 run to take the lead and pushed the lead up to 19-12. The Falcons did not fold and cut the Marian lead to 24-23. The Black and Blue took the next point to secure the set.
The Falcons received some separation in the second set at the 12-12 mark behind the serve of senior Matthew Korman (Roscoe, Ill.) to go on a 4-0 run. CUW had two set points, but could not put away the Sabres. Marian took the set, 28-26. Korman also set the program record for a three-set match with 33 assists.
CUW took an early lead again in the third set, but the lead quickly separated with a 13-2 run for the home team. The Falcons cut the deficit to 19-13, but the Sabres cruised to a 25-16 victory to secure the match.
Freshman Spencer Herman (Appleton, Wis.) had 15 kills, four block assists and nine digs to lead the flock on Tuesday night.
Senior James Althoff (Kenosha, Wis.) had four service aces in the loss.
The Falcons look to bounce back on Thursday against MSOE.
