AURORA, Ill. – Concordia Wisconsin and Aurora came into Saturday as the only two unbeaten teams in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC). The Falcons ended the day as the only unbeaten team with a 28-18, 25-19, 22-25, 25-23 victory to move to 7-0 in the NACC.
The Falcons threw the first punch on Saturday with the first set after trailing, 1-2. The Blue and White went on a 7-1 run and never looked back. The Falcons pushed the lead up to seven at 24-17 and took the first set at 25-18 on a service error. The senior duo of Sophia Collins (Lake Mills, Wis.) and Gabriella Kaebisch (Paddock Lake, Wis.) both had four kills in the set.
The Falcons and Spartans found themselves in a battle once again in the second set. The Black and Blue took an 11-8 lead, but the Falcons stormed back to take the lead back at 14-12. The Falcons broke free with the set tied at 17 with an 8-2 run to close the set. The Spartans hit -.043 in the set. Sophomore Lauren Shroba (Bolingbrook, Ill.) led the attack with five kills.
The Spartans continued to fight and stayed alive with a 7-4 run to close the third set and win 25-22.
CUW jumped out to an early lead in the fourth set and a kill from Jenna Chaussee gave CUW a 9-5 lead. The Spartans stormed back and built a 17-14 lead late. The set went down to the very end and a kill from Jenna Chaussee gave the Falcons the 25-23 victory and the match.
Lauren Shroba led the match with 11 kills, one ahead of Sophia Collins with 10.
Senior Sierra Lee (Kenosha, Wis.) put together a 25-assist performance on Saturday.
Jenna Chausse led CUW with 18 digs and two service aces.
The victory snaps a four-match losing streak at Aurora and is the first victory since 2016.
The Falcons return to action on Friday at home against Benedictine.
