Baseball Cages Carroll in Home Opener

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW baseball team opened play at Kapco Park with a commanding 9-2 victory against Carroll on Wednesday afternoon. The win propels the Falcons to 1-1 on the young season.

The Falcons struck early and often in the home opener on Wednesday.

In the first inning, senior Sam Beers (Janesville, Wis.) scored on an error in left field off the bat of senior Johannes Haakenson (Janesville, Wis.). Senior Kyle Kosobucki (De Pere, Wis.) then singled into the gap in right-center field to score Haakenson.

Beers struck again in the second inning with a blast into the gap in right field to score junior Josh Bentley (Lockport, Ill.).

Kyle Kosobucki continued the attack in the second on a ground out that scored Beers.

Johannes Haakenson made the Pioneers for intentionally walking Sam Beers with a shot into the gap in right-center field to clear the bases with senior Drew Johnson (Menasha, Wis.), junior Cole Aguirre (Chino Hills, Calif.) and Sam Beers crossing home plate.

Josh Bentley closed the Concordia scoring in the fourth inning with a laser down the left-field line to score Drew Johnson and senior Tristan Largent (Verona, Wis.).

Senior Ryan Green (Green Bay, Wis.) was commanding on the mound on Wednesday with five strikeouts and only giving up one hit in the victory. Freshman Zach Slome (Schaumburg, Ill.) earned the save with three innings pitched and notched two strikeouts.

The Falcons picked up 10 hits in the victory. Sam Beers, Sean Tillmon and Cole Aguirre all had two hits in the victory.

The Blue and White also did not have an error in the victory.

The Falcons will fly south and return to action on March 12 when they compete in Arizona for nine games.
