Falcons Foiled in Spring Break Finale

TUCSON, Ariz. – The CUW baseball team wrapped up its Spring Break matchups on Sunday against Gustavus Adolphus.

The Gusties got the game rolling with a three-run first inning off of a home run. They continued their scoring train with a run in the second and four more in the third. Another in the fourth put Gustavus up 8-0 early in the matchup.

A fielder's choice gave senior Tristan Largent (Verona, Wis.) an RBI with senior Sean Tillmon (Plainfield, Ill.) crossing the plate to cut into the Gusty lead.

Senior Drew Johnson (Menasha, Wis.) singled in the gap to drive fellow senior Kyle Kosobucki (De Pere, Wis.) across the plate. Largent crossed later with a walk to freshman Kyle Flynn (Downers Grove, Ill.).

The Falcons broke out the bats in the bottom of the fifth inning with six runs in the single inning alone. Johnson got the scoring started with a three-RBI double that cleared Largent, Tillmon, and senior Dillan Fike (Oak Lawn, Ill.) to cut the Gustavus lead back to three at 6-9.

Junior Cole Aguirre (Chino Hills, Calif.) took a big cut and blasted a ball out for a two-run home run that scored Johnson from second. Senior Sam Beers (Janesville, Wis.) drove in fellow senior and Janesville native Johannes Haakenson from second to tie up the game.

The Falcons gave up a ate homerun to the Gusties in the top of the sixth inning to go down 9-10.

The game wrapped up early with an eighth-inning finish due to the Falcon flight time.

The flock flies home after a 5-4 Spring Break. They will head to U.S. Bank Stadium in Minnesota on Thursday for a doubleheader with Bethel.
