Baseball Battled Benedictine

LISLE, Ill. – The CUW baseball team headed to Lisle, Illinois to take on the Benedictine Eagles on Sunday afternoon in one of their last NACC doubleheaders.

The Falcons started with a bang off the bat of senior Kyle Kosobucki, (De Pere, Wis.) with a home run to left field in the top of the second inning.

The Eagles tied up the matchup in the bottom of the third.

Kosobucki launched another dinger in the top of the fourth inning which scored two with fellow senior Drew Johnson (Menasha, Wis.) crossing the plate from second base.

The top of the fifth saw a pair of Falcon runs with senior Sean Tillmon (Plainfield, Wis.) crossing the plate off the bat of senior Johannes Haakenson (Janesville, Wis.) with a double to left field. Senior Sam Beers (Janesville, Wis.) scored off a single to center field from senior Tristen Largent (Verona, Wis.).

The Eagles looked to mount a comeback but fell short with a final score of 5-4.

Kosobucki led the Falcon offense with three RBIs on his first two home runs of the season.

The Eagles dominated game two with a final score of 12-2 that was run-ruled in the eighth inning.

Senior Daniel Hahn (Cudahy, Wis.) crossed the plate off a single from Haakenson to give the Falcons the 1-0 advantage.  

The Eagles put up one run in the fourth and four runs in the fifth inning to take the 5-1 lead.

Senior Dillan Fike (Oak Lawn, Ill.) batted in the final Falcon run of the matchup with a single through the left side that scored junior Cole Aguirre (Chino Hills, Calif.).

Benedictine opened the matchup in the eighth inning and eventually won the second game with a run-rule in place. The Eagles scored one off of a walk and three off of wild pitches.

The Falcons are scheduled to take on the Illinois Tech Scarlet Haws on Friday in a matchup at Kapco Park.
