MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin football team roasted the Knights of Martin Luther on Saturday with a 55-14 victory.
The Falcons threw the first punch on Saturday when senior Michael Purkey (Woodstock, Ill.) connected with sophomore Mason Knueppel (Jackson, Wis.) for a 20-yard pass in the first quarter.
Senior Ashar Thomas (Punta Gorda, Fla.) started the scoring in the second quarter with a four-yard burst.
Michael Purkey found sophomore Nick Crowell (Las Vegas, Nev.) for a 22-yard dart into the endzone.
Senior Breven Palpallatoc (Las Vegas, Nev.) recovered a fumble for the Falcons in the second quarter to give the Falcons the ball back.
CUW closed the half with another touchdown to Knueppel for a five-yard touchdown.
Ashar Thomas struck again in the third quarter for a two-yard touchdown.
Freshman Roman Funk (Scottsdale, Ariz.) started the fourth quarter with a 61-yard rocket to senior Colin Rerecich (Henderson, Nev.).
Junior Jordan Garcia (Lockhart, Texas) joined in on the fun with a six-yard rush into the endzone.
Funk then threw a 23-yard pass to sophomore Kevin Lunz (Streamwood, Ill.).
Justice Kaneta had an interception in the season opener. Freshman Bailey Serignet (Cedar Hill, Tenn.) and freshman Cole Krych both recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter.
Michael Purkey threw for 186 yards and three touchdowns on Saturday.
Ashar Thomas had 104 yards and two touchdowns rushing.
The Falcons look to continue their winning ways at Northwestern on Saturday.
