DANVILLE, Ky. – The Concordia Wisconsin field hockey team fell on Saturday in a Collegiate Field Hockey Conference battle at Centre on Saturday. The Colonels collected a 3-0 victory to send the Falcons to 2-12 and 0-5 in the CFHC.
The Colonels attacked the Concordia net early with sophomore Parks Cawthray (Oakville, Ontario) collecting two saves in the first 100 seconds.
The Black and Gold struck first with a goal in the seventh minute.
The Falcons fought back in the ninth minute with a quality opportunity when sophomore Maddie Rider (Danville, Pa.) had a shot saved and then junior Katie Quirke (Antioch, Ill.) responded with another shot where the Colonels had a defensive save to keep the game from being tied.
CUW also had a shot from sophomore Grace Partain (Springfield, Va.) in the 24th minute.
Centre scored again in the 29th minute to hold a 2-0 lead at halftime.
In the 51st minute, CUW had an opportunity when junior Katelyn Cardinale (Mount Laurel, N.J.) sent the ball wide off a penalty corner from sophomore Leah Mouganis (Pittsburgh, Pa.).
The Colonels iced the game with the third goal in the 59th minute.
Centre closed the game with a 21-4 advantage in shots on Saturday.
Parks Cawthray and freshman Carlijn van der Bend (Voorburg, Netherlands) both had five saves.
The Falcons close the weekend on Sunday at DePauw.
