MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin women's tennis team had a mixed day on Saturday, losing to the Edgewood Eagles 0-7 before rebounding with a commanding 7-0 victory over the Marian Sabres.
With this split, the Falcons' record now stands at 5-4 overall and 5-3 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play, while their home record improves to 4-2.
The day began with a tough match against the formidable Eagles of Edgewood. Despite their efforts, the Falcons were unable to secure a point, falling 0-7.
Turning their focus to the Sabres, the Falcons quickly found their rhythm, achieving a decisive 7-0 win.
In doubles action, the No. 1 team of senior Peyton Morgan (Arlington Heights, Wis.) and freshman Ruth Dolde (Fort Wayne, Ind.) were the first to finish, defeating Kendall Pliner and Hazel Duchemin 6-2.
Shortly after, the No. 3 doubles team of freshmen Jaia Underwood (Glendale, Wis.) and Katelyn de Guzman (Belvidere, Ill.) secured a commanding 6-1 victory over Madeline Chimenti and Madeline DeVries, clinching the doubles point and putting CUW ahead 1-0.
The Falcons completed a clean sweep in doubles, with sophomores Morgan Chyla (Salem Lakes, Wis.) and Payton Steward (Appleton, Wis.) defeating Josephine Bruch and Melana Brunton.
The dominance continued into singles play. Payton Steward extended CUW's lead to 2-0 after her opponent had to retire with a score of 4-1.
In No. 1 singles, Peyton Morgan delivered an impressive performance, winning 6-1, 6-1.
Katelyn de Guzman followed suit in No. 6 singles, also winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, to clinch the match for the Blue and White, bringing the score to 4-0.
Morgan Chyla then defeated Kendall Pliner 6-1, 6-0 in No. 2 singles, while Jeanie Eisen matched those scores in No. 5 singles.
The final match saw Ruth Dolde triumph over Hazel Duchemin, finishing 6-3, 6-2, and sealing the 7-0 victory for CUW.
The Falcons will conclude NACC play on Wednesday when they travel to MSOE.
