Women's Hockey Sweeps Away MSOE

MEQUON, Wis. – The birds brought out the brooms on Saturday night against the Milwaukee School of Engineering. The Falcons picked up a 4-0 victory to remain undefeated in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) at 4-0-0. CUW soars to 5-2-0 on the season. MSOE falls to 2-4-0 with the loss.

The Falcons scored a short-handed goal 12:02 into the first period when sophomore Mackaylan McGown (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) stole the but deep in the MSOE defensive zone and found senior Olivia Kurtz (Plainfield, Ill.) in front of the net for Kurtz to score.

Almost three minutes later, junior Mackayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.) lit the lamp from four feet away off passes from senior Brooke Gibson (LaSalle, Ontario) and freshman Sydney Fergusson (Bancroft, Ontario).

The lone goal of the second period came off the stick of sophomore Naomi Black at the 12:43 mark of the period on a two-on-one breakaway with Mackaylan McGown that was sparked by Sydney Fergusson.

Freshman Taylor Heleniak (Mercer, Wis.) scored her first collegiate goal in the third period with a shot from in front of the net off assists from senior Lilly Casher (Grayslake, Ill.) and senior Erika Graham (Brighton, Mich.).

The Raiders threatened to spoil the first collegiate shutout for sophomore Carolyn Bourgeault (Buffalo, N.Y.) with a point-blank shot late in the third period but she came up with the save to finish the evening with 12.

The Falcons blitzed MSOE with a 50-12 advantage in shots. The Falcons were led by senior Amanda Bauer (Waunakee, Wis.) and Brooke Gibson with five shots. Gibson also won all 10 of her faceoffs.

The Blue and White look to reclaim the Border Battle Cup next weekend with the Friday game at Lake Forest.
