DE PERE, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin football team took care of business on a tough road trip up north to St. Norbert. The Falcons picked up a key Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) victory with a 24-17 win over the Green Knights. The victory sends Concordia to 4-1 on the year and 3-0 in the NACC.
The Falcons surged down the field on the opening drive for six plays that was capped off with a 19-yard catch up the middle for senior Jason Leonard (Tampa, Fla.) from sophomore Roman Funk Scottsdale, Ariz.). Sophomore Jack Bradley (Tucson, Ariz.) had two catches for 44 yards on the opening drive.
The Green Knights galloped down the field for a touchdown of their own, but junior Duncan Ireland III (Eagle, Wis.) blocked the extra point.
Concordia wasted no time to strike back with a four-play 75-yard drive that was highlighted by a 44-yard touchdown run from freshman Jerome Hinton (Racine, Wis.) down the right side.
The Concordia defense pushed St. Norbert backwards and earned the stop.
The Falcons marched down the field and opened the second quarter with Roman Funk finding Jason Leonard in the left corner of the end zone and Leonard was able to get his toes down inbounds.
St. Norbert moved down the field, but were forced to a 33-yard field goal after two incomplete passes to the endzone. The Green Knights then recovered a fumble on the kickoff and returned it for a 34-yard touchdown and converted the two-point conversion.
The Falcons and Green Knights went into halftime with the Falcons leading 21-17.
Momentum was with St. Norbert after a botched punt set up St. Norbert deep in the CUW zone, but junior Devin Glowicki (Commerce City, Colo.) gave the Falcons the ball back with an interception at the one-yard line.
The Falcons took the ball and had a methodical drive down the field that extended into the fourth quarter and resulted in a 27-yard field goal for freshman Cole Martin (Slinger, Wis.).
St. Norbert moved the ball into CUW territory on multiple occasions in the fourth quarter but were stopped on fourth down on three different occasions.
Roman Funk led the contest with 178 yards passing and threw two touchdowns, with no turnovers.
Jack Bradley was the leading receiver with 68 yards in the victory. Jason Leonard finished with 50 yards and two touchdowns.
Jerome Hinton rushed for a career-best 110 yards in the victory.
Cole Martin was perfect on Saturday with his one field goal and three extra-point makes.
Senior Marquiton Sellers (Winnsboro, La.) led the Falcons with nine tackles and was a part of the lone sack with sophomore Kadin Huisinga (Glendale, Ariz.).
